Perception at Large (2014)
Installation exhibited at the Camberwell MA Show, UK — MA Fine Art Digital, University of the Arts London
Perception at Large is an immersive installation created during my MA in Fine Art Digital at the University of the Arts London. The work features a first-person perspective video projected through three layers of translucent fabric, producing a semi-immersive, dreamlike environment. The imagery shifts between vast, unreal landscapes and intimate macro details, evoking an altered sense of presence and dislocation.
Inspired by Aldous Huxley’s The Doors of Perception, the installation explores the idea that our minds filter reality to protect us from sensory overload, leaving us with only a narrow slice of experience. In today's urban and highly technological society, this filtering often heightens feelings of separation, alienation, and loneliness—especially in densely populated cities where individuals may feel most disconnected.
Perception at Large invites the viewer to step into a space where those boundaries begin to dissolve—where the self and the outside world blur, and perception expands beyond the ordinary. It offers a contemplative escape from urban isolation, momentarily reconnecting the viewer with a deeper, more fluid state of awareness.
